This non-accredited skills maintenance session ensures that trained breathing apparatus operators maintain competency in the safe operation, inspection, and maintenance of breathing apparatus equipment. The session reinforces critical safety procedures and provides hands-on practice to maintain proficiency in accordance with AS/NZS 1715:2009 and workplace procedures.

Upon completion of this skills maintenance session, participants will be able to:

  • Correctly perform pre-donning checks and tests on breathing apparatus
  • Safely don, operate, and doff breathing apparatus in controlled conditions
  • Identify and report equipment faults or defects
  • Perform post-use cleaning and basic maintenance procedures
  • Demonstrate effective communication while wearing breathing apparatus
  • Calculate and monitor available working time from air supply
  • Apply appropriate emergency and entrapment procedures

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 4 Hours

Previous completion of MSMWHS216 Operate Breathing Apparatus or equivalent training. 

All participants must be clean shaven at time of the assessment.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 6 months

Participants will be required to successful demonstrate the practical skills of donning, doffing and maintenance of breathing apparatus and complete a short theory assessment.
